Quote of the Day Part III

"What's life? Life's easy. A quirk of matter; nature's way of keeping meat fresh."

- The Doctor, (Doctor Who)

While thinking about life and death (more so than usual - this happens when it is part of your studies), this quote popped into my head. It was a few more moments before I remembered it was, in fact, from Doctor Who, and not some source of well-known literature. So I share it with you all knowing that I shall be revealing the depths of my geekiness in the process. That aside, what do you think? Is life just a quirk of matter?

  1. That's pretty nifty, being able to remember a quote like that...

I reckon it's not the source but the content of a quote that makes its value.
Incidentally Doctor Who is a beloved icon of more than just geeks. : j

Life in the universe? I suppose that saying that it is a mere quirk of matter is fair enough, on a cosmic scale... But insofar as we don't live our lives on the cosmic scale, that truth is hardly relevant to us in anything more than an abstract manner.

On the scale of our lives, I wouldn't be that surprised to find that most people have their own definition that gets them through the day. I'd further say that there are some universal elements that we must all manage in our views of life, like transiency and potential for instance.
